Volunteering at Equity Partnership?

We are almost always in need of volunteers who can provide general office support or assist at events, such as staffing our information stall. Additionally, we warmly welcome anyone who can host online events like quizzes.

We frequently require help for individual projects, so if you could let us know your specific skills, that would be incredibly helpful.

Support & Development

Equity Partnership Groups Support and Community Development Work

Equity Partnership is dedicated to empowering LGBTQ+ groups and individuals within Bradford and the surrounding district. While we develop and maintain groups we have established, our primary focus is supporting external groups in their development and growth.

This support can range from providing meeting space or publicising groups on our website, to assisting with funding applications or facilitating groups in their early stages. The nature of our support can vary over time and is tailored to each individual group’s needs.

For more information about what we can offer, please contact us.

Join Our Board of Trustees

Bradford LGBTQ+ Strategic Partnership, also known as Equity Partnership, is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity. As such, we are required by law to have a constitution and a Board of Trustees.

Equity Partnership plays a vital role in the development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans communities. We challenge homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism, ensure the long-term needs of LGBTQ+ communities are met, and act as a network to advance LGBTQ+ issues.

Operating across Bradford and beyond, our objectives include supporting LGBTQ+ community groups, helping communities and individuals to network and have a voice, influencing mainstream organisations’ policies and practices to ensure LGBTQ+ communities can access their services, and managing the Equity Centre in central Bradford.

Become a Trustee

Why Become a Trustee?

We are seeking Board members (trustees) who are part of the LGBTQ+ communities and would be interested in joining our enthusiastic and committed Board, which meets once a month, usually on a Wednesday.

As a trustee, your role will be to:

  • Direct the Equity Partnership towards realising its objectives.
  • Provide leadership to the Equity Partnership.
  • Ensure the organisation is properly and effectively governed and managed.

We offer an induction and opportunities for training. To be a trustee, you need to be a member of Equity Partnership and able to devote some time to the role, which includes participating in Board meetings, sub-groups, occasional sessions for annual review and planning, and volunteering at events such as Bradford LGBT Pride.

We can offer you experience in management, personnel issues, project management, and finance. You can learn more about the general roles of a trustee from the Charity Commission’s publication, “Charity Trustee: What’s Involved.”

How to Become a Board Member

There are two ways to join our Board:

  1. Via election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  2. By appointment (co-opting):

If all 14 Board places are not filled by the AGM election, trustees may appoint (co-opt) suitable members who will then stand down at the next AGM and, if they wish, go through the election process.

We encourage anyone interested to meet with the chair of our Board of Trustees to discuss how we could work together. We are keen to ensure that LGBTQ+ communities are well represented through the diversity of the Board. Occasionally, we will advertise for board members, particularly when seeking specific skills.
