France votes to ban conversion therapy and tackle LGBTQ+ hate!

As of January 26th 2022, France has had a unanimous vote (142 to 0) to ban conversion therapy! The new bill makes practice of conversion therapy not only illegal but punishable by €30,000 (£25,000) and two years in jail. If the practice is targeted towards a minor, the punishment grows, with the fee becoming around €45,000 (£37,000) and the prison sentence can be upwards of three years. This landmark decision comes just as France celebrates 40 years since their end of homosexuality being a crime. The bill includes 42 measures which will tackle homophobia and transphobia in all paths of life including school, healthcare, sports, work and in the home.
