On this page we have included signposts to many other local and national organisations offering support for a wide range of circumstances. This is a non-exhaustive list, and while every effort has been made to ensure the information here is accurate, some links, email addresses or phone numbers may occasionally be out of date.

General LGBTQ+ Organisations

LGBT+ Switchboard
The LGBT+ Switchboard provides support on the phone, and through email and instant messaging services, to people from across the UK. They may be feeling isolated in their community, they may be coming out and want to talk to somebody who has also been through it, they may have an issue that is concerning them and need to talk it through with somebody who will not judge them, they may want to ask how to put a condom on without being embarrassed, or they may just need to know where they can meet other people in their area.

Stonewall
Stonewall works with individuals and institutions across the UK to help create change so people from LGBTQ+ communities can flourish.

LGBT Foundation
The LGBT Foundation is a national charity delivering advice, support and information services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities.

Youth-focused LGBTQ+ Organisations

The Proud Trust
The Proud Trust is a lifesaving and life enhancing organisation that helps LGBT+ young people empower themselves, to make a positive change for themselves, and their communities. They do this through youth groups, coordinating national and regional LGBT+ youth work networks, managing the LGBT+ Centre for Manchester, delivering of training, running events and campaigns, undertaking research and creating resources.

Gendered Intelligence
Gendered Intelligence (GI) is a trans-led charity working across the UK with the aim of increasing understandings of gender diversity. Their vision is of a world where people are no longer constrained by narrow perceptions and expectations of gender, and where diverse gender expressions are visible and valued. They work with the trans community and those who impact on trans lives; they particularly specialise in supporting young trans people aged 8-25.

Mermaids
Mermaids supports gender-diverse children and young people until their 20th birthday, as well as their families and professionals involved in their care.

Crisis Support

Zero Suicide Alliance
The Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) is a collaboration of National Health Service trusts, charities, businesses and individuals who are all committed to suicide prevention in the UK and beyond. We are an alliance of people and organisations coming together around one basic principle: Suicide is preventable.

The First Response Service
Offers support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to people of all ages living in Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale or Craven experiencing a mental health crisis

Halifax Samaritans
The Samaritans offers a safe place for you to talk any time you like, in your own way – about whatever’s getting to you. You don’t have to be suicidal. You can phone 116 123 free from any phone.

Local Help & Support

Mesmac
Yorkshire MESMAC provides a range of services across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Rotherham, York, North Yorkshire and Hull. They can offer rapid and confidential HIV testing, condoms and lubricant Bradford also offers a counselling service and wellbeing group sessions

Bradford Mind
Bradford Mind provides information and support to anyone experiencing mental or emotional health problems, primarily throughout Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

Vital
VITAL is an Experts by Experience organisation providing specialist services to support people who have experienced mental ill health or are vulnerable due to older age, trauma, or illness. We help individuals to get their voices heard and navigate the health and social care system for the services they need for better mental/physical health. We provide advocacy, befriending, volunteering opportunities and bespoke and workshop training opportunities

Cellar Trust
The Cellar Trust is registered mental health charity (No. 701982) that supports people with mental health problems, across the Bradford district to move forward in their recovery and live independent, fulfilling lives.

Sharing Voices
Sharing Voices Bradford is a community development mental health organisation actively supporting and working with diverse minority communities of Bradford.

Roshni Ghar
Helps women in the Keighley area that have experienced mental health problems in their lives and supports them to become confident and independent.

Making Space
A national charity and leading provider of adult health and social care services including local services around mental health and support for carers

Specific National LGBT+ Support

MindOut
MindOut is a project run by and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer people. Our staff, volunteers and board of trustees, are all LGBTQ. We believe that sharing this identity is essential to our work.

Switchboard LGBT+
Switchboard is a confidential listening service for the LGBT+ communities; offering support across our helpline, email and instant messaging, The service is open 10am-10pm daily.

LGBT Foundation
The LGBT Foundation is a national charity delivering advice, support and information services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities.

National organisations

Mind
Mind offers advice, support and information to people experiencing a mental health difficulty and their family and friends. Mind also has a network of local associations in England and Wales to which people can turn for help and assistance. Mind have specific information for the LGBT+ communities

Time to Change
Time to change is A growing movement of people changing how we think and act about mental health problems.

Rethink Mental Illness
Rethink mental Illness works to help everyone affected by severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, recover a better quality of life. It provides effective services and support and campaigns for change through greater awareness and understanding

Sane
SANE provides confidential and non-judgemental emotional support, guidance and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including families, friends and carers

Faith-based Support

Imaan UK
Imaan is a social support group for LGBT Muslims, their family, friends and supporters, and those questioning their sexuality or gender identity. Imaan also holds monthly meetings on the last Sunday of each month in London where members can discuss issues of their sexuality, for guidance and support in a safe environment

Hiddayah
Hidayah (means guidance in Arabic) is a registered charity and we are entirely volunteer-led. Hidayah is a secular organisation, however, its projects and activities are developed specifically for the needs of LGBTQI+ Muslims. Our vision is to ensure our voices are heard and understood. Our mission is to provide support and welfare for LGBTQI+ Muslims and promote social justice and education about our community to counter discrimination, prejudice and injustice. We are a mix of practicing and non-practicing Muslims. As an inclusive charity, we do not exclude anyone, and warmly welcome friends, families, and allies to all of our events.

Inclusive Church
Inclusive Church is a network of churches, groups and individuals uniting together around a shared vision: “We believe in inclusive Church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.”

Jewish LGBT+ Group
The Jewish Gay and Lesbian Group is primarily a social group which provides an atmosphere of friendship and support for Jewish gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and their partners. In addition to social events, the group organises religious and informative events for its members and guests. They are affiliated to the World Congress of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Jews and work collaboratively with other organisations to ensure a breadth of opportunities for the Jewish LGBT community.

Support for Asylum Seekers

Refugee Action Bradford
At Refugee Action, we help people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We get them the basic support they need to live again with dignity. Then we help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK. Our vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They will get justice, live free of poverty and be able to successfully rebuild their lives

BIASAN (Bradford Immigration and Asylum Support & Advice Network)
Bradford Immigration and Asylum Seekers Support and Advice Network [BIASAN] provides support, befriending and signposting to asylum seekers and refugees

Bradford City of Sanctuary
We participate in forums and networks around the city to make sure the refugee voice is heard and acknowledged amongst policy makers, service providers and members of the public. We welcome newly arrived asylum seekers and give them a basic introduction to life in Bradford. We organise events to enable people from different backgrounds to meet and share food and music and other aspects of their respective cultures.
