LGBT History Month - Equity Partnership events
February is LGB History Month and the Equity Partnership is marking it with several events.
Monday 1st. LGBT History Month. Training day to make participants more aware of the history and development of LGBT History Month. At the Equity Centre, 10am - 4pm. The training day is free. For more information or to book a place email jake@equitypartnership.org.uk or phone him on 01274 727759.
Friday 5th. Men only event at the Equity Centre, 7-9.30pm. This is the first ever ‘Men Only’ event organised by the Equity Partnership and looks like being a really stimulating and interesting evening. With two top authors and pioneers in their fields – writer and photographer Paul Hartnett (www.paulhartnett.com) and Shout! founder/editor and ‘Dr Who’ author, Mark Michalowski (www.markmichalowski.co.uk). Thursday 11th. Communities of Interest/Neighbourhood Forum. Organised as part of LGBT History Month. At the Midland Hotel, Bradford, 6.30 - 9.30pm. The theme of the year's COI event will be ‘Safety of the LGB Communities’, with presentations on the Hate Crime Panel, Equality & Diversity in W Yorks Fire & Rescue, Education Bradford on homophobic bullying in schools, tackling anti-social behaviour in Bradford, and Victim Support. Wednesday 17th. 6.30 for 7pm. Equity Partnership LGB Awards. A glitzy 'bubbly' event in the French Ballroom at the Midland Hotel, Bradford, for the presentation of the Equity Partnership LGB Awards 2010, which were launched last year. One celebrity guest will be Yorkshire-born author Paul Burston - 'Shameless', 'Star People', 'Lovers & Losers' and, published this year, 'The Gay Divorcee'. This will be a ticket-only event though there will be no charge (donations will, of course, be gratefully accepted). This year there will be five awards, two more than last year, and one award will be specifically for a regional organisation or group.
A BSL singer will be at the event.
Thursday 18th. Keighley LGB Celebration Event – Equity Partnership launches into Keighley. Organised as part of LGBT History Month. At the Temple Row Centre, Keighley, 6pm till late. Entertainment, including Belinda O'Hooley, Heidi Tidow, comedienne Barbara Nice, up and coming singer Chris Dye and a disco. Curry buffet and wine. Sunday 21st. LGB Tree planting. Partnership activity between Equity Partnership, Bradford Environmental Trust (BEAT) and Keighley Voluntary Services as part of extending activities for LGB communities in the Keighley during LGBT History Month. In Cross Roads Park, near Haworth; meet at the main entrance to the park at the Haworth Road/Halifax Road junction, 10.30am. Planting for 1-2 hrs. Warm, waterproof outdoor clothing, wellies, etc, needed. Bring your own refreshments. Tools and plants provided.
